The Institute of CIS

The Institute of CIS (Institute of Diaspora and integration) was established in June 1996 as an Autonomous non-profit organization. Among the founders of the Institute: Lomonosov Moscow State University, MGIMO, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Director of the Institute of CIS countries – Konstantin F. Zatulin, special representative of the state Duma on migration and citizenship, first Deputy Chairman of the state Duma Committee on CIS, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots, state Duma Deputy I, IV, V, VII convocations.

The Institute is a unique Russian scientific institution that provides a comprehensive and comprehensive study of socio-political and economic processes in the post-Soviet space and the problems of Russian compatriots.

The structure of the Institute fully reflects the directions and specifics of its activities: departments of Ukraine, Belarus, Caucasus, Moldova and Transnistria, Central Asia and Kazakhstan, Economic research, Diaspora and migration, Eurasian studies and SCO, Comparative legislation, Department of relations with the ROC and the Orthodox community abroad, Islamic studies.

Over the years of its existence since 1996, the Institute of CIS has held about 200 conferences with the involvement of world-class experts. In the last two years alone, the Institute has organized 15 scientific and practical conferences (10 of which were international). On the basis of the Institute there are several expert platforms, which on a regular basis carry out monitoring, research and prepare analytical reports and recommendations for government agencies. The Institute has accumulated a wealth of experience in expert and analytical work on topical issues of the current geopolitical and economic situation in the CIS countries and in the world, processes that affect the state, risks and prospects of development of Russia.

Developing a base of scientific and applied research on a wide range of issues: political and economic research on the CIS countries, geopolitical processes in them and around them, sustainability and efficiency of public institutions, as well as socio-economic status in them; study the political and economic environment in Russia, development of international relations and problems of growing geopolitical confrontation with Russia, and its consequences not only for Russia but also to CIS countries.

Special attention is paid to the problems of development of Russian cooperation in the field of energy, as this direction has become decisive in the rapidly changing geopolitical and geo-economic situation, international relations and the rules of their regulation.
